Compost at home instead of sending food scraps to landfill. This reduces the amount of methane which is produced by our waste (methane is a greenhouse gas which contributes to global warming). Here’s a guide to composting from the website Less Waste.

Do you find yourself wasting fresh herbs? Try freezing half the packet or making them into herby ice cubes. Growing your own windowsill herb garden can also save you money and ensure you always have a fresh supply to make tasty homemade dishes.

Did you know you don’t necessarily need to bin fallen autumn leaves in your garden? They can provide helpful shelter for insects if allowed to stay for a while, and you can also save them to make leaf mould, which provides useful nutrients to the soil.

 

 

28th August 2022: FRIDGE JUG TIP FOR HOT DAYS

If you will be longing for a chilled drink during the hottest weather, you can prepare a jug of water in advance and place it in the fridge to chill. You’ll still have a cold glass of water on hand, but you won’t have to run the tap while you wait for the water to turn cold.
